Frogs
by Arthur Simone

A cool but almost cold but oh what a relief summer night

My lover’s hot fudge kiss and blood heat cheeks repel the chill of dew

Hand through her hair an oiled blanket I wish the best for her pillow

She must sleep alone tonight – my own bed has gather ed a weeks’ dust

Awkward cold alone confused I walk, chilled chirping frogs my only company

I ask them

If blood heat repels dew cold

Then blood heat repels more dew cold

Then blood heat repels more and more dew cold

But the moist frogs remind me that there must be a dew there must be a dew

On a cool but almost cold but oh what a relief summer night
